At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Writes that Mrs. Yardley told Firmstance that all of the items "intended for the Philadelphia Hospitals" should be sent to Ogden. Firmstance is therefore sending a box containing eighteen flannel shirts, twelve hospital shirts, six sheets, six pillowcases, five pairs of slippers, one set of blankets, six towels, a few rags, and pamphlets. Written from Glendon, possibly in New York.
