Title: to his son

Tells his son, John, that he received word of his sickness from his nurse, Mrs. Ogden. Sends news of home and wishes for John's recovery. Expresses his hopes that John will be able to come home. Concludes by sending love from relatives and asking John to give Mrs. [Sarah] Ogden his respects.

Title: to Sarah Ogden

Writes from West Philadelpia, Pennsylvania. Says his health has deteriorated since he left the Broad and Cherry Streets Hospital about a month ago. He likens Ogden to a sister, and asks that she thank the women at the hospital for their kindness. Requests she or the other nurses write to him. The third page is a small hand written note containing Groner's address and signature.

Writes to a friend, based on the content of the letter it is likely Sarah Ogden. Says he was examined by a doctor, who told him that he was not allowed to join his regiment, and sent him to Dr. King's. Tells Ogdon that he is looking for his brother, Michael Faith, and requests that she please check the Broad and Hood Street Hospital for him. States he likes the place where he is staying on 24th and South Street because it has seventy-five beds and an upper ward.

Title: to Sarah Ogden

Writes from camp near New Bridge, Virginia. Forwards the descriptive list of Joseph Weiler, an inmate at the Broad and Cherry Hospital, along with "a letter stating the circumstances connected with his wound." Asks God to bless "the ladies of the north, who are doing so much to alleviate the sufferings of Soldiers." In a Postscript he asks that Mrs. Ogden remember him to the officers and members of Weiler's company.

Informs Ogden that he received a pass home before he had to return to his company. Thanks her for the kindness she showed him during his stay at the Broad and Cherry Hospital. Includes an embossed in the upper left hand corner. Envelope includes a three cent stamp.

Title: to Sarah Ogden

Speaks of the pain and disability his wound continues to cause him. Tells Ogden that it is both payday and visiting day. Says he received a letter from McNabb, who got home safely. Requests that Ogden send him items, he needs to make chains. He will enclose money to pay for the materials, and will pay the balance if he has not enclosed enough. Includes an embossed seal in the upper left hand corner.

Apologizes for not visiting her at the Hospital while he was in the area. Tells her to keep the money he sent her previously. States, "I may get home this winter then I can take it with me." Says he has been appointed to the position of ward master. Requests that she send him her picture so that he can "remember one that took care of me when wounded." Year of the letter was taken from the envelope. Includes an embossed seal in the upper left hand corner.

Writes of his safe arrival home. Apologizes for not writing sooner, but explains that he has been busy with "the pleasures of home..." Thanks her for her care, and tells her that he will remember her in his prayers. Includes an embossed seal in the upper left hand corner.

Title: to Sarah Ogden

Thanks Ogden and the other nurses for taking care of him during his stay in the hospital. Describes the continued pain of his wounded hand. Recounts his journey home, stating that he found his family well. Requests that Ogden write to let him know about the other wounded soldiers. Includes an embossed seal of the Union flag in the upper left hand corner.

Title: to Sarah Ogden

Requests a loan of two hundred dollars to pay for his home. Says he will pay the loan back over four years. Offers to give Ogden a mortgage on the house if she grants him this favor. Identifies himself to Ogden as a soldier she nursed in a Philadelphia hospital, whose left hand was wounded, and to whom she gave a pillow to rest the hand on during his journey home.

Writes from Camp Rublock that he is looking forward to finishing his service by the 22nd of August. Describes the 8 x 10 foot tent that he has to share with three other men, contrasting it with the comfortable living conditions in the Broad and Cherry Hospital. He then discusses his current tent mates and his life at camp. Includes an embossed seal in the upper left hand corner.

Title: to Edward H. Ogden

Writes from camp near "Bever Damn." Believes that Ogden knows more about the war than the soldiers because she is able to obtain an overview of the various battles through newspapers, while the army cannot. States that the army is staying in "The Rifel [sic] Pits," waiting for the Rebels, that the Army of the Potomac has had "hard times," and that Richmond "must fall before the Summers Campaigning is over." Believes that if Richmond does fall into Union hands, the Rebels will evacuate the state of Virginia. Says he does not know what the country will come to if the war continues for…
