Jones is at the Broad and Cherry Street Hospital. He returns the letter, telling her that Jones will come to Ogden to get the draft because he is "in want of the money very much." Mr. Jones explains that if the Mr. Jones in question needs more money, he should write to him, and he will send him some.

Stresses that Ogden should print the word, "Private," over the seal so that only she will open the letter. Says that John Arnold will be able to pick up his pay from the Pay Master General. Asks about the Broad and Cherry Hospital, wishing that she could be there. Informs Ogden that she will be returning in a few weeks.

Describes the scenery of his new surroundings and complains of the cold. He tells her about mountain climbing in Maine and New Hampshire, and sightseeing in Boston and New York. Says he plans on visiting the hospital soon, and requests that Ogden please send a copy of his letter to Cornelia because writing materials are scarce, and he left his behind.

States she hopes that Ogden's efforts are rewarded by God, and asks that Ogden please write to inform her whether or not Alphonse will obtain a discharge.

State is not listed, but was likely written from Greenwich, New York.

Upon arriving there, she found that the doctor was not there. Writes that Mr. Harmon was at their house that morning and left a note from the doctor. Written to "Sallie," likely referring to Sarah Ogden.

Says everything seems "very uncertain," and she believes that the grief and sadness of the nation appears to be the only definite thing.

They thank the women for their services and convey "sincere wishes for their future health and happiness." On the back of the document is a list of the women in the Ladies' Committees for the 16th and Filbert Street Hospital and the 23rd and Filbert Street Hospital. Written to Sarah Ogden by Deuglin by order of Thomas B. Reed.
