This letter also says that it is in response to rumors of the current Marshal, J.H. Pierce vacating the spot. If Pierce was not leaving the suit would not be pressed. A letter from Stewart asking Senator Bruce to look into a petition put forth to oust his son Robert from his position of Post Master in Macon for a Mrs. Gilmero. He says that one of the only reasons the signers want this is because her husband John was killed in the "Christiana Massacres" [the Christiana Riot of 1851]. A letter that was sent with an article from the "Republic". The author of the letter received this paper and article from J.E. Daniel, a doctor from Jackson Mississippi. The article details a boy's conduct during a yellow fever outbreak. The letter also mentions a sketch of a school in Mass. that the author went to. It is a satirical picture of the school which the author gives the Senator permission to use.

This letter has three main focuses, the first is a letter of thanks for a note that Senator Bruce sent to a tenant of Thomas which he said was much appreciated and according to the tenant James H Osborne will be kept for the next generation. The second part of the letter is a request to put a good word in for Thomas concerning a position in the secretary of war's office. The third portion mentions a book "Adventures and Observations in Africa" which he recommends to the senator, and offers to send the Senator a copy.

A short note outlining Thomas's fear that white democrats are trying to push him out of his position as Post Master of Bovina Mississippi, with the help of Pease. He requests that the Senator Bruce help him to keep his position until a vote can be decided to discover the wishes of the patrons. There is a small raised image of a woman's face and the word "Verona" underneath it in the top Left corner of the document.

There is also a mention of a man by the name of Jinnings killed a man by the name of Reinhart. He was caught but has since escaped jail.

This looks like a ledger of some sort. It is written on letterhead of the United States Internal Revenue collectors office form the District of Mississippi. It has a list of names and amounts of numbers. Many of the names are mentioned in previous letters as owing debts to Senator Bruce. The names listed are as follows: Ino S Brnton, Geo M Buchanan, Ino H Athey, Andrew P Shattack, Flemming Leodges, Jus. P Mathens, E.W.Hall, William B Rainer, Theo. W. Huul, and Lenny R Smith. There is no date included.

2nd Lieutenant Kilpatrick was writing the Senator to request help transferring from the 17th Infantry into the 7th Calvary due to a vacancy through the death of an officer in the Calvary. He is writing the senator since he is from Mississippi, and Bruce helped him to gin his commission in the army. There is a note that says he has also written to Senator Alcorn, also a representative of Mississippi. Written at Fort Sully.
