Records the receipt of the bills drawn by the Treasury Board on the first of August last "on William Imlay, Esq. Commissioner of Continental Loan Office State of Connecticut" on behalf of Knox and remitted to John Bryant. Possibly related to the procurement of shot and shells from the Salisbury furnace for the armory in Springfield, Massachusetts (see GLC03432.006 and others).

Orders Captain Bryant to immediately send him "a return of every article taken by General Shepard [from the armory in Springfield, Massachusetts]...noting particularly the state they were in at the time they were taken, and at the time they were returned." Indicates he expects Captain Bryant to improve his "accuracy and attention." General William Shepard, commander of the troops at Springfield, protected the Armory from participants in Shays' Rebellion in January 1787. The following month he helped capture the rebels. Discusses payments related to the armory in Springfield, Massachusetts. Instructs Bryant to provide Jeremiah Wadsworth with a receipt of payment and to make two duplicates of the receipt. Also sends a list (not included) of items from the armory at Springfield, Massachusetts that Congress ordered to be sold. Directs Bryant to "make yourself acquainted with the value of these articles and for the price they could be sold at Springfied or Hartford." Written from the War Office.

Orders Captain Bryant to arrange for a cooper to repair powder casks and to have Mr. Smith purchase the hoops for the repairs of the powder casks. Warns Bryant to be "extremely careful that no accident happens with the powder" and to remember the instructions Knox gave him in 1785, indicating that "any misfortune arising from the least inattention on your part will never be forgiven by the public." With a postscript asking him to "Inform Mr. Henly I received his letter." Written from the War Office.

Wadsworth has been instructed to inform Knox once he receives payment; Knox will then issue an order for Bryant's and Mr. Henly's pay for the last year. Comments on the settling of accounts in the ordnance department related to Bryant's pay. Asks for an expense report for constructing a wall around the magazine.

Signed by Lieutenant Colonel Hill. Lists Ensign Alexander Salans as wounded in the left arm. Mentions that he paid for part of his "cure" and that he was given a certificate with the monthly returns of 1 April 1778. Mentions three widows and two orphans whose husbands and fathers were killed and who are to have their passage back to Great Britain paid by the regiment. That the passage would be paid is from the General Order dated 9 May 1777 in Quebec.

Written by Kingston as a staff officer to General John Burgoyne. Kingston wrote this somewhere in Britain, where he returned with Burgoyne in April 1778. Requests action on his "particular exchange" as a prisoner of war. Mentions that he could be exchanged for Lieutenant Colonel Bellinger or Colonel Hale. Kingston was only formally a prisoner. He returned to Britain and promised not to fight until exchanged.

Hunt is writing to an unknown recipient. Sends it to "My Dearest Friend." The index prepared for this collection suggests it could be to General John Burgoyne. It could also have been sent to Robert Kingston. It is impossible to tell. Year inferred from the "Sat. Even: June 29th." The only year in the 1770s to have a June 29th on a Saturday is 1776. Says he saw his sister and had hoped to see him. Tells him that his mother became ill and died. Hopes circumstances have permitted him to leave before this arrives. Says he will help out in whatever way he can.

Fragment of a letter written by Brigadier General Henry Watson Powell to General Burgoyne. Watson served under Burgoyne as commander of the 2nd Brigade during the Saratoga Campaign. This fragment is simply the closing of the letter. Says: "Carpenters, Masons;, Smiths, Oxen, Corvee Canadians[,]Carts & Horses with Harness compleat[.] Therefore The Ballance & Carts being destroyed will be of no great consequence."
