Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Orders Bryant, as the "public Store-keeper, at Springfield...to deliver two four pounders...with proper implements" for the use of Savage's company. Written from the War Office. With an autograph note signed by Savage on the bottom noting the receipt of the items on 1 September 1787.

Captain John Bryant was the Deputy Commissary of Military Stores at the Armory in Springfield, Massachusetts.
