Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Records the receipt of the bills drawn by the Treasury Board on the first of August last "on William Imlay, Esq. Commissioner of Continental Loan Office State of Connecticut" on behalf of Knox and remitted to John Bryant. Possibly related to the procurement of shot and shells from the Salisbury furnace for the armory in Springfield, Massachusetts (see GLC03432.006 and others).

Captain John Bryant was the Deputy Commissary of Military Stores at the Armory in Springfield, Massachusetts.
