Indicates that a recent letter he wrote was not for publication, but permits Otis to use as he sees fit. Tells Otis that Andrew Stephenson of Richmond, Virginia requests a subscription of "your volumes as they come out."

Title: "The night after Christmas"

Parody of "'Twas the Night Before Christmas" poem. In Archer's "The Night After Christmas," children all over the town had eaten sweets to such an extent that it made them all sick. Instead of hearing the clattering of hooves on the roof, the family is awoken by the moans and groans of the children: "O' Me! I'm so sick: I shall die of this pain; I'll never touch Santa Claus' candy again!" At the end of the parody there reads: "Written when he broke his arm for his granddaughter Roberta Archer Jeffrey."
