A flatbed car is on the trestle. A 4-4-0 engine with a man standing on top its cab sits on the trackes, dwarfed by the structure. The coal trestle burned (either damaged by fire or burned down completely) in 1893.

Discusses witnessing a demonstration of "liquid fire, inextinguishable for a period, by water" by a "Mr Lloyd of Adams in Pennsylva" and the products potential for weaponry. Gerry was then vice president. Written from the chamber of the senate. One engraving of "Elmood," once the residence of Elbridge Gerry, included as collateral.

States that the news came from a report made to Congress by Strauss' predecessor on 30 June 1953. Eisenhower replies, "The only question is: was the report, in this particular, wise and necessary?" Letter written on White House stationary.

Mentions a letter discovered on the road, which speaks of the forthcoming British evacuation of New York. Details his expenses as a Member of Congress.

Includes copies of the circular letter with the results of these directions for Congress to review (not present). The bequest was eventually used to establish the Smithsonian Institute in 1846.

Report submitted to the Senate by Secretary of War Cameron extols the advantages of Professor H.A. Tilden's coffee extract, apparently a synthetic or ersatz coffee and condensed milk mixture. Claims "[t]he coffee and sugar ration for 100,000 men for twenty days weighs two hundred and fifty tons, one-half of which is saved, or hundred and twenty-five tons, an important item on a march or advance, reducing the number of wagons for this ration half."
