One letter from Thomas H. Downs to Frances Davenport dated May 24, 1865. Downs is the surgeon who treated her husband's wounds in the hospital. Informs her that her husband George was taken to the hospital of 3rd Division 2nd Corps by mistake. All of the wounded were removed and taken to Fredericksburg where George survived for a further two days.

Belongs to the 2nd Brigade, 3rd Division, 2nd Corps, stationed about 4 miles from Long Bridge, near the Pike. In going there he says she should keep to the right hand road and says that the commander is Gen Pierce.
