Writes from Camp Stone. Includes a poem entitled, "Lines on the death of my friend Louis Mitchell of Co. I 1st Regt Minnesota Vols: who was killed in a skirmish on the Virginia side of the Potomac. Oct. 21st 1861." Gordon's friend, Lewis Mitchell, was the only man killed in this battle. Describes his friend's death in detail in the poem, and states that he died an honorable death for the love of his country.

Informs Ogden that the eleventh Pennsylvania cavalry is to march to Richmond, Virginia to release the Union prisoners there. A portion of the letter has been torn causing minor text loss.

Tells Ogden about an expedition to avenge the death of Colonel Dalgreen. Also reports on the Rebels' mistreatment of captured officers of General Hugh Kilpatrick's command.

The third page is a small hand written note containing Groner's address and signature.

Says he was examined by a doctor, who told him that he was not allowed to join his regiment, and sent him to Dr. King's. Tells Ogdon that he is looking for his brother, Michael Faith, and requests that she please check the Broad and Hood Street Hospital for him. States he likes the place where he is staying on 24th and South Street because it has seventy-five beds and an upper ward.

Forwards the descriptive list of Joseph Weiler, an inmate at the Broad and Cherry Hospital, along with "a letter stating the circumstances connected with his wound." Asks God to bless "the ladies of the north, who are doing so much to alleviate the sufferings of Soldiers." In a Postscript he asks that Mrs. Ogden remember him to the officers and members of Weiler's company.

Disapproves of women who marry soldiers, and notes how the soldiers pass judgment when they see "a soldier run with a girl."
