About the Course

The United States is a nation of immigrants. Immigration and public response to it have always been a part of the American experience. This course discussed the need to think like historians to understand immigration and its push-and-pull factors. Each class examined public reactions and government responses to newcomers of different nationalities, races, ethnicities, and cultures.
