One letter from W. Wall Coriell to Benjamin S. Elliot dated June 23, 1862. Coriell expresses his joy in getting a letter from Plainfield again and is glad he has not been forgotten. He describes his duty on the picket line and mentions a skirmish between his company and the Confederates. He mentions General Hooker. He mentions his companies role in the Battle of Fair Oaks, or the Battle of Seven Pines. He mentions one death and one wounded during that battle and compares it as being not as bad as the battle at Williamsburg. He mentions that after the battle he was sent into the field to help keep their position until reinforcements arrived and he had to sleep among the dead, as there was not enough men to spare to bury them. Once reinforcements arrived they were able to bury the dead and burned the horses that had been killed. He also mentions that the days blur together as they have not has any religious services on Sunday for some time.
