At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

One newsmap entitled, "Mountbatten's Air, Sea and Land Forces Ready to Hit Burma" dated, October 11, 1943. Consists of a map depicting the British fleet moving towards Burma to remove Japanese forces. On reverse side contains articles related to Allies advancing in Italy; Goebbels claiming that the Allies were supporting Yugoslavian guerilla forces; Russian army learning of German army intentions in Crimea; and other news. Also included is the Farmers Market Today column providing updates of businesses.
