At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

One newsmap entitled, "Invasion of Lowlands One of Shortest Routes to Berlin" dated May 31, 1943. Consists of a map depicting Allies strategy to invade Berlin. Reverse side contains articles related to a Nazi-attack against a church in England that killed 21 children; the Aleutian Islands campaign; Russian army tally of planes destroyed and Americans fighting in Italy. Also included is the Farmers Market Today column providing updates of businesses.
