The Spanish influence on American history is significant, complex, and diverse, spanning more than three centuries of cooperation between Spain and the United States. Learn more about this story through our suite of resources developed in conjunction with the Queen Sofía Spanish Institute and the Royal Academy of History of Spain.

 

This project will initially focus on the Spanish influence on the American Revolution and will continue adding additional eras of history.

About the Project

GLI and QSSI Signing an agreement

Directors of Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History, Royal Academy of History of Spain, and Queen Sofía Spanish Institute sign a collaboration agreement in the presence of Her Majesty Queen Sofía. 

The Queen Sofía Spanish Institute, the Royal Academy of History of Spain, and the Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History are proud to present a webpage that highlights Spain’s influence on American history. This online platform offers a rich array of educational materials, providing digital access to resources. This initiative is part of a long-term partnership between the three organizations that will illustrate the multiple centuries in which Spain has had a profound impact on US history, disseminate the Royal Academy of History’s extensive work throughout the US, and underscore Spain’s fundamental influence on the history of North America.

Real Academia de la Historia

The Royal Academy of History of Spain (RAH) is a prestigious institution dedicated to the study, research and promotion of the History of Spain, Portugal and Ibero-America, as well as all territories that were part of the Spanish Administration for more than three centuries, and to contribute to the cultural dissemination of such knowledge.
