At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

One undated photograph released by The American Museum of Immigration. The photograph is a portrait of Charlotte Beyser Bartholdi. The attached release says that Charlotte Beyser Bartholdi is the mother of Frederic Auguste Bartholdi, the sculptor of the Statue of Liberty. He used his mother as the model for the statue. The American Museum of Immigration seeks a female descendent of Bartholdi to star in Operation Unity. The date is based on the fundraising operation called Operation Unity by the AMI to fund a museum space.
