At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

One pamphlet entitled, "Who is the NAACP?" dated 1935. Details the case of George Crawford and reviews NAACP's statement related to the incident. The essay recounts accusations made against George Crawford for murdering Mina Buckner, a former employee. The authors believe that the legal defense team of NAACP expedited the defense to life imprisonment irresponsibly.
