At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

One pamphlet entitled, "Relief of Agriculture, Etc.-- Message from the President of the United States," dated March 21, 1933. Would enact three measures; enrollment of federal jobs for public employment, state relief grants, and creating a public works labor program. Gives estimate of 250,000 men that will be given temporary employment by the summer.
