At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Collection of items belonging to the Medical Committee for Civil Rights dated 1963. Consists of flyers and printed handouts related to the March for Jobs and Freedom which took place August 28, 1963 in Washington D.C.

It is noted in one flyer prefacing the difficulty of the day and that the main goal of the march should be remembered in order to not lose tempers. Main location of meeting for the march was at the All Souls Church organized by the Unitarian Universality Association.
