At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Angelica writes to accept the invitation to visit, and that she would have written sooner but she has been indisposed but should be quite well in a few days. She intends to convince another sister of also visiting as it would be good for her to be from home.
