At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Addressed to "Dad + Bee." All goes well, he's moving and has "physio therapy twice a day." He's excited to get out of the hospital soon. He received their letters from the 8th, and thanks them for the "cute Valentines."

The letter is dated "Wednesday 23rd." "Letters in a Box," notes the letter was sent on February 23, 1944.
