Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Two photograph albums belonging to William Jenkins dated 1923-1943. The first album contains images of Jenkins while stationed in various bases throughout the world. Contains images of military life on base as well as visiting heritage sites. The second album contains official military photographs while the U.S. fought against Japan in the Guadalcanal.
