Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Moe reports that one of the fellows showed him pictures of life back home, and it made him think of his own home. He writes that of all the countries they are liberating, it is only in France there is some semblance of order because De Gaulle wouldn't knuckle under to the U.S.
