The letter is printed on stationery provided by the U. S. Christian Commission. Is in good health. Received two letters from her this morning. One had some cough medicine in it. Got the receipt for his box. "I want to kiss you." Will be staying in camp for the winter. Found Joseph in camp; he is healthy and did very well on the march. Guernsey also "stood it first rate." John, on the other hand, "growled all of the way but he came through [alright]." Had some pudding for dinner. Has been living very well; gets at least two loaves of bread a day and will be making his shanty even better for the winter. Picked some cotton buds, but had nothing to use them for. Reminds her to keep good courage and trust in the Lord. Now has more time to write. Fayette says "you must tell Jane to direct his letters to the same address she writes his letters, or they will not be delivered. Reminds her not to forget to serve the Lord.

The copyright law of the United States (title 17, United States Code) governs the making of photocopies or other reproductions of copyrighted material. Under certain conditions specified in the law, libraries and archives are authorized to furnish a photocopy or other reproduction. One of these specific conditions is that the photocopy or reproduction is not to be “used for any purpose other than private study, scholarship, or research.” If a user makes a request for, or later uses, a photocopy or reproduction for purposes in excess of “fair use,” that user may be liable for copyright infringement. This institution reserves the right to refuse to accept a copying order if, in its judgment, fulfillment of the order would involve violation of copyright law.
