At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

From West Point, Arnold writes to a supplier asserting that "The Enemy from their Preparations seem to have some important movement in contemplation, their object may be an attack on these ports." Consequently, he requests the cattle meant for the post be expedited so that they will be well provisioned. Written at "Robinson's House."
