Mentions that W. Douglas, a Presbyterian minister, intends to become the Chaplain of their church. Charles worries about his family's safety, because of the reported brutality of the Union soldiers. Comments that the Union is determined to subjugate them, and he believes it is their duty to fight to the end. Reiterates comments in his 16 March 1865 letter that things are calm, he is well taken care of, and he hopes that "the negroes have proved true & faithful." He is anxious for news about his brother "Marion & the Artillery boys." Relays other news he has received and asks to be kept informed about what's happening at home and with the family. Charles was a Corporal in the 1st South Carolina Infantry during the Civil War. Richard was his father.
