A letter of condolence upon the death of Emmeline Colcock, Charles' fiance and Colcock's daughter. Charles was then on furlough from the 1st South Carolina Infantry, where he served as a Corporal during the Civil War. Colcock refers to Charles' letter from 7 September 1861, in which Charles hoped for Emmeline's recovery, commenting that he weeps when he reads it. He feels bound to Charles. Colcock wrote a note in pencil at the bottom of p. 3 indicating that "Willie has arrived." Willie is William F. Colcock, Jr.
