Writes he has arrived safely at camp at Navy Hill. Discusses meeting a Catholic priest on his travels whom he talked with about religious doctrines. Reports that the camp is set up and the men are enjoying themselves. The daughters of Richmond have visited. Explains that there are enough men (about 80) to form a company commanded by Maxcy Gregg, so they will be mustered into Confederate service. Comments on taking the Confederate oath and the difficulties that lay ahead. Hutson was engaged to Colcock in 1861 but she died in late 1861 before they were married. He was a Corporal, 1st South Carolina Infantry, during the Civil War. Letter is possibly missing last page or pages, no signature.
