At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Archer signs over to Stone the title for "one half of the land secured to me...by the annexed deed...by N.F. Smith." Witnessed by William Christy, Willis A Jarvis, and J.W. Moorly. The deed from Niles Smith appears on p. 2-3, and specifies the location of the land and indicates that Branch paid Smith $1,000 for it. Signed by Smith on p. 3 and witnessed by Henry Millard, E. Harris, and J.G. Welsh Meyer.
