Discusses auctioneering, dismissing the "boast of an honesty in their dealing" by New York auctioneers. Advises against a tax on auctions that would be prohibitive, since auctions are "the means of establishing a regularity in prices." But concedes that a small tax to "diminish the number of auctions sales would, I think, be useful." Informs Hobart that a payment he ordered made to Albert has been arranged by the constable, and discusses some related business matters. Asks for a report on the bankruptcy bill before Congress.
