At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Signed by Hilldring and Karl R. Meinhardt (Notary Public). Addresses the "charges that have been made as to the loyalty of Herbert A. Fierst." Discusses Hilldring's relation to Fierst. Hilldring defends Fierst from all the charges and says that Fierst is not only loyal, but "he is also most effective, diplomatic, hardworking, and conscientious."
