A letter to the editor titled "A Man for the Times" describes the value of an upright citizen-neighbor. An article titled "Desire of Riches" warns about the danger of wealth, while another article extols "Christian Diplomacy," especially in light of war. "Our Soldiers" examines the dangers of war on soldiers' morality. Section called "Secular News" covers war news, including The Battle of Fredericksburg, The Battle at Kinston, and a dispatch from General Robert E. Lee. A description of a "Negro Burial" is used as an example of how much better off Negroes are in the South than the North.
