Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Includes descriptions of General Price and His Missouri Troops at the Battle of Corinth, and General Butlers Famous Proclamation Against the Ladies of New Orleans. Includes miscellaneous advertisements for goods and services, including a wanted ad for a female slave. Issue is largely held together by archival tape but its pages are still bound.
