At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

List of Generals in Regular Confederate Army. An editorial discusses the idea that Lincoln will abandon the Emancipation Proclamation, which was designed as a military move, and another guest editorial works to define independence in terms of government. Two articles describe the violent deaths of Georgia soldiers at the hands of Yankees, one of them as a prisoner of war and the other in battle. The paper includes Senate and House reports from the Georgia Legislature in Milledgeville. Lists of Ladies Volunteer Societies have names and contributions. This issue also lists members of Georgia congressional districts and local Confederate leaders. There are ads for the sale of slaves. Penciled writing on top.
