At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Alludes to a secret; says he is "perfectly willing to wait several years as you said" and tells her that he went to Alaska, because it was the only place, a man could find work, "but it is a dogs life and you might as well be buried, no pleasure, no amusement or anything. Simply work, work, work." Mentions buying provisions in quantity.
