At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Asks his sister to send him more shirts. Reports that the soldiers are still under Marshal Law and are not allowed out without a pass after 7:30 at night (unless they are on duty). Describes his work duties, which are mostly to help the nurses. Written on stationery with "US Army General Hospital, Newton University, Baltimore" letterhead.
