At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Requests a return (and the receipts) for every species of public stores under Bryant's care from the first of January. Says once the information is received Bryant's books will be closed. From that point on Bryant will only need to note alterations in his quarterly reports. Notes these orders are in compliance with Congress's and the Secretary of War's (Henry Knox) wishes.
