At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

The tickets state: "The Possessor of this TICKET shall be entitled to such Prize as shall be drawn to this Number in the Lottery, agreeable to an Act of the Legislature of the State of New-York, passed the 14th February, 1790, subject to a Deduction of 15 per Cent.
