Paul informs his wife that he is not in the hospital anymore, and asks if she received the money he sent her. He assures her that he will be coming home with the rest of his company and that the rest of his regiment had a hard march, but they did not fight in the battle [Chancellorsville?]. He then assures her that he will be home soon and "that Story, that was going around about the nine month men Staying longer is now trouth in it at tal we are Coming home I Shant inlist." He then writes of the battle that had taken place: " we had a very hard Batle this time the Rebels Say that we Killed five to thare wone the 8th was Badly Cut up & takin Prisners Capt Peterman was wounded Badly & takin Prisner the army is on this Side of the river now." Paul closes the letter by asking if the Thodes family received his letter, and tells Celicia that he will speak with her when he returns home.
