At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

General Fenton served with British forces on the Continent. He was an accomplished linguist and commanded considerable respect in France and Germany. The papers include numerous printed items relating to the Plebiscite in Upper Silesia. Part of the collection is in French and German. Also includes three incomplete editions of the newspaper, the Daily Telegram, Aug 1921.
