At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

He was keeping watch on the 25th when he heard some other voices on the island. He thought they were the only company there but he was wrong. They kept up a question and answer session but they could not get any closer to each other because he had to obey orders.
