The retired Commodore Truxtun writes to Commodore Dale with personal news and naval advice. Indicates that Dale was near "the theatre of the European War," referring to the first Barbary War, for which Truxtun declined a command. In a post script, indicates that he hopes Dale will stay in the Mediterranean for a year, "which will work down some of your fat of which you have too much."
