Pickens, Governor of South Carolina, writes: "I told the council at our last meeting I must go home, and I notify you that I shall go, in all probability tomorrow. I feel every assurance that every thing is safe in the hands of yourself & council." Written on State of South Carolina, Head Quarters stationery.
