At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Writes to Knox about his plans to start a business here in Calcutta, and notes that this idea was "formed with the concurrence of my Wise counsellor [sic] Mrs. B - " who is presumably his wife, Sarah Lyons Flucker Beaumez. Continues on to discusses the potential of this business and the logistics in setting it up and running it.
