At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Discusses communications he received from French diplomats and encourages Henry Jackson to come to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Plans to pay a portion of the money he owes to Jackson and refers to potential discounts. Asks Jackson to complete a business transaction regarding the St. George's House (possibly referring to the Waldo patent lands). Transmitted a final plan in his last letter.
