Went to see the play "Belle Stratagem" on Monday but says there was "no Prince" - a reference to Prince Edward, Duke of Kent (see GLC02437.06042) - because of the rowdy audience. Reports that whenever the box door was opened "there was an alarming opposition between the ragamuffins, Loyalists, & Orchastra [sic] and Peace could only be obtained by the mortifying submission of the good to the bad, all gentlemen were silent." Goes on to describe the prince's introduction to the assembly. Says he held himself with ease and grace and was affable in conversation. Two dates were written in later: 26 January 1794 and 15 February 1794.
