At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Writes in response to Randall's recent letter about a bill owed by Knox's brother, William. Explains that it is inconvenient for him to pay the bill at present, but if Randall requires it, he will pay. Provides instructions on how to obtain the money, which include contacting a Mr. McConnel for a portion of it.
