At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Reports he has a letter of some consequence "requisite to recover a considerable debt due us in Philadelphia." Has taken the liberty to enclose it under cover to Knox (not included). Would like Knox to send it on to Mr. Anthony. Is in daily expectation of hearing from Samuel Shaw, as he heard from London that Shaw had left Canton. Also hears "insurance is effected upon him in London."
