At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Writes to thank Knox for his friendship and support and hopes that he will continue his correspondence with her. When he is unable to write, hopes that his brother will send an occasional letter updating her on the well-being of the Knox family. Mentions that her children remember Knox in their prayers.
